Adventures at Surf

I am sooo tired today. Ridiculously tired. Tuesday Lee and I rested. We laid on the couch and watched movies while eating pizza. I think the break was well deserved.

Yesterday, however, we went out again and I got to bed at 3:30 or so. We did make it to Surf to hear Jr and them. Shelly, you should have come! Oh, and sorry I didn’t take you to the spa with me. My bad. Next time. Anyway, we got there around 11~ish. We got in for free since Jr knew we were coming. Lisa didn’t come so it was just me and Lee. We danced and had a few drinks till the guys took their first break. Jr came over and met Lee while giving me shit about not coming more often. I had to remind him that I work and Surf is far from where I live. Of course the key board player had to come over and say hi. I swear that man would try to screw anything that held still long enough! Unfortunately, Jr grabbed me and drug me outside at this point, so I left Lee alone with K. I wasn’t worried though, she can handle herself. Now, first thing first. Jr has a really strong accent Jamaican accent. And of course, I am crap with accents of all kind. I know, I have an Asian mother and I can’t understand Asian people. I grew up in So. Callie and I’m horrible with most Spanish speakers’ accents. And I’ve been in south Florida for 5 years and my friends still introduce me as “This is S. She doesn’t speak Patois.” Ok, now, Jr has me outside and he is talking. I understand about every 4th word out of his mouth. After a bit of repetition and his slowing down, I get the gist of the whole conversation. A few YEARS back, I met one of his boys there a surf. Apparently, every time he is there, he asks about me. Jr has told Lisa, but she doesn’t seem to care. He said he asks Lisa how I am and he once asked for my number to give to his boy and Lisa just looked at him like he was crazy. She asked him why he was asking about me and he dropped it so that she wouldn’t think he was interested in me. Anyway, to make a long story short, he really wants to set me up with his boy, so he is going to try to arrange for us to both be at one of his shows.

Back inside, Lee and I danced and drank and played some pool with these guys we met. While we were there, I ran into someone I hadn’t seen in a long time. M. When was the last time I saw him? It must have been years ago. He looks exactly the same except he now has dreads that go half way down his back. There is no way to miss him since he is a foot taller than everyone else. He is a special one. He actually though that he could call Shelly and me and we wouldn’t know about it. We sat across from each other within arms reach every day for 8 hours a day! You think we won’t talk?? Idiot. Well, he stopped me as I was walking past him. He just smiled and said some bull like “You are still beautiful” while eyeing me up and down. I of course wanted to get back to dancing and hanging out with my girl. He said “Don’t leave without saying goodbye.” Yeah right. That was the last I saw of him.

At the end of the night, probably second to last song, the drummer’s son got up and sang. Now, I don’t’ know how old he was, but he was probably early 20s. Maybe late teens or something. I actually have no idea because I am a really bad judge of age. He did such a good job, but you could tell he was very nervous. Jr introduced us to him when they were packing up all of their stuff. He was trying to get us to come see him Saturday, but Lee is leaving on Friday. So instead, Jr invited us to a private party they were playing at today. So, as exhausted as I am, I will probably go home, take a nap, and head back up to hear Jr and them. You only live once, right?
