Is it bad to have impure thoughts about someone 10 years younger than you? I found out the drummer's son is 18. He's so damn cute, but still just a baby...

Busy Little Bee

My goodness, I have too much to do. I’m trying to get everything done at work, I have to go shopping, and I need to do laundry all by tomorrow night. I leave for Alabama Friday morning!! I know, I know, wasn’t I just on vacation? Yes, but this is a family thing. I have to go. Alright, I don’t have to go, but any excuse I get to get away from work, I’m taking. Plus, I so rarely see my family in Birmingham. Tonight I am not going to make much progress on my list of things to do. I told my girl, Lisa, I would go up to Surf with her tonight. So that means being hot and sweaty and staying up till oh, 3am… I can always sleep next month!

Break time yet?

Boy do I need a break. I have just been running ragged for weeks now. Friday, my intention was to leave work, eat some left over Indian food, and get some much needed SLEEP! That didn’t happen, though. B got a few personal faxes at work. Seeing as he is trying to sell a house he owns up in Jacksonville, I figured he needed those papers. So, on my way home I was gonna drop them off. Problem is that he has the cutest little kids, 3 and 1 and a half years old. So, of course, I’ve over there till midnight playing with the kids and chatting with him and Wifey. Since she is a stay at home mom, Wifey doesn’t get too much interaction with adults and they took the kids to drop grandma off at the airport, so they had a long nap in the car. That meant everyone was up and excited to have company.

Saturday, I tried to just relax. A friend of mine was having a BBQ, so I lounged around the house till it was time to go. I Kat hasn’t had a party in so long. It was good go see everyone, but was strange. 3/4 years ago, everyone was driving sporty little cars, partying all night long, and skinny dipping in the pool. Now, everyone drives SUVs or Minivans and heads home around 8~ish still sober and fully clothed. What is the world coming to??? But in the end we all had a very good time. And it ended with a few of us carrying drunk Kat into the house, just like old times. Only in the past, I would have been stumbling in and going to sleep in the yellow room (which is now the baby’s room). Instead I drove home at 1:30 and crawled into my own bed, sober and alone.

Sunday, I didn’t do anything. I woke up late enough that the Japanese store I frequent was closed, and I couldn’t buy the skins I need to make my fried wontons and Gyoza (pan fried). So I have to go today to get them and I’ll cook tonight or tomorrow. I think I’m going to make chicken Katsu too (Japanese version of fried chicken cutlets.) Now I just have to decide if I want to do shrimp fried rice or red bean rice to go with it. I know, sounds like a lot. But it’s not. I love to cook. It relaxes me. I just know if I make all this, I’ll have leftovers for a week. I guess I’ll just feed the neighbors again. Maybe I’ll take some to B and Wifey. Shelly, I’ll pop some in the freezer for when you get back!

No Surf for me

Alright, I admit it. I wimped out. I was soooo tired last night that I didn’t go back to Surf. Just the thought of that hot sweaty crowded really loud little room made me cringe a bit. Wednesday night is great because you have a whole week to work up to going again! So, Lee and I went to a movie instead. The new Batman one. It was good. After the movie, we drove down to Ft. Lauderdale beach. Funny that she has been here for 2 weeks and this was the first time we went to the beach! Then we came home and baked store bought oatmeal cookies (Ahhh!! Store bought!!!!) and spend the rest of the night gossiping while she packed. Anyone who knows me knows that I make everything from scratch from my teriyaki sauce to my cream puffs, so you know how hard the store bought thing was and you know who bought them!! Not me! Anyway, it was nice. Apparently Lee had, just like me, recently been to her parents’ house cleaning out her old room. Well, she had found all of these old letters I had written her from 92 till a few years back. Yes, I still write actual letters on actual stationary, but it’s easier to email her since I don’t know what city/state/country she’ll be in at any given moment. So, we sat there reading through all the letters and reminiscing. I pulled out my old high school yearbook to show her all of the people I talked about in my letters and she told me all the details of the people she had mentioned in her letters. (No, I didn’t have her letters, but I referred to her letters when I wrote mine. I actually do have her letters, but they are sitting in a box in my parents’ house.) That really was the best way to spend her last night in town. So this morning, on my way into work, I dropped Lee off at the airport. She is heading up to DC for the weekend, then back to Callie. I am really going to miss having her around. I’ll just have to plan a trip to San Fran sometime soon!

Adventures at Surf

I am sooo tired today. Ridiculously tired. Tuesday Lee and I rested. We laid on the couch and watched movies while eating pizza. I think the break was well deserved.

Yesterday, however, we went out again and I got to bed at 3:30 or so. We did make it to Surf to hear Jr and them. Shelly, you should have come! Oh, and sorry I didn’t take you to the spa with me. My bad. Next time. Anyway, we got there around 11~ish. We got in for free since Jr knew we were coming. Lisa didn’t come so it was just me and Lee. We danced and had a few drinks till the guys took their first break. Jr came over and met Lee while giving me shit about not coming more often. I had to remind him that I work and Surf is far from where I live. Of course the key board player had to come over and say hi. I swear that man would try to screw anything that held still long enough! Unfortunately, Jr grabbed me and drug me outside at this point, so I left Lee alone with K. I wasn’t worried though, she can handle herself. Now, first thing first. Jr has a really strong accent Jamaican accent. And of course, I am crap with accents of all kind. I know, I have an Asian mother and I can’t understand Asian people. I grew up in So. Callie and I’m horrible with most Spanish speakers’ accents. And I’ve been in south Florida for 5 years and my friends still introduce me as “This is S. She doesn’t speak Patois.” Ok, now, Jr has me outside and he is talking. I understand about every 4th word out of his mouth. After a bit of repetition and his slowing down, I get the gist of the whole conversation. A few YEARS back, I met one of his boys there a surf. Apparently, every time he is there, he asks about me. Jr has told Lisa, but she doesn’t seem to care. He said he asks Lisa how I am and he once asked for my number to give to his boy and Lisa just looked at him like he was crazy. She asked him why he was asking about me and he dropped it so that she wouldn’t think he was interested in me. Anyway, to make a long story short, he really wants to set me up with his boy, so he is going to try to arrange for us to both be at one of his shows.

Back inside, Lee and I danced and drank and played some pool with these guys we met. While we were there, I ran into someone I hadn’t seen in a long time. M. When was the last time I saw him? It must have been years ago. He looks exactly the same except he now has dreads that go half way down his back. There is no way to miss him since he is a foot taller than everyone else. He is a special one. He actually though that he could call Shelly and me and we wouldn’t know about it. We sat across from each other within arms reach every day for 8 hours a day! You think we won’t talk?? Idiot. Well, he stopped me as I was walking past him. He just smiled and said some bull like “You are still beautiful” while eyeing me up and down. I of course wanted to get back to dancing and hanging out with my girl. He said “Don’t leave without saying goodbye.” Yeah right. That was the last I saw of him.

At the end of the night, probably second to last song, the drummer’s son got up and sang. Now, I don’t’ know how old he was, but he was probably early 20s. Maybe late teens or something. I actually have no idea because I am a really bad judge of age. He did such a good job, but you could tell he was very nervous. Jr introduced us to him when they were packing up all of their stuff. He was trying to get us to come see him Saturday, but Lee is leaving on Friday. So instead, Jr invited us to a private party they were playing at today. So, as exhausted as I am, I will probably go home, take a nap, and head back up to hear Jr and them. You only live once, right?

Weekend Update

What a Weekend!! Oh my. I don’t have time to get into all of it because I’m soooo busy at work, but here is a little update.

Friday – Left work late. Went to the Hard Rock. If you’ve never been there, there are a bunch of restaurants, shops, Bar and clubs out back behind the casino. And it’s open very very late. Lee and I had a great time. We met some very random people, which is always fun. We got in around 3~ish.

Saturday – Got up early and came in to work for a bit. Deadlines and all… you know how it is. Then went home to get Lee and went to Misty’s going away party. She leaves for DC at the end of the month. There was food and lots of people. It was fun. Plus, I have this really cute friend that I wanted Lee to meet. They hit it off famously, as I knew they would. There is a whole story surrounding that, but I’ll continue on. We left Misty’s and picked up my girl Betty. Then we went down to South Beach. Lee had never been so I struggled through my exhaustion and stuck with water to keep from dying! We had a ton of fun and got in around 7:30 or so.

Sunday – Slept all day! When I got up Lee and I went out for Indian food and saw a movie. Charlie and the Chocolate factory. Even though I really really tried not to, the whole time I kept comparing it to the original. My friend was supposed to come out with us, but he never called. Bad boy! Lee played it off well, but in a drunken stupor then next night, she was bitching about it!

Monday – I was “sick” and of course couldn’t come to work. So, after sleeping in a little bit, Lee made breakfast and we went to Target to get some stuff. Then, we headed off to the spa! Aaaaahhhhhhh! I tell you, there is nothing better than laying naked on a table while someone saturates your body with warm oil! After that, we went to the Rustic Inn. They have the best Crab Legs. It’s a great place to go, but I don’t go that often. It’s not really the kind of place you’d take a date. I think the Bibs and Wooden mallets make it a little hard to be lady like. After rolling ourselves out to the car, we made it home in one piece and let our food digest. Then we got dressed and went to Café Iguana. They have Martini Mondays! It’s 2 for 1 drinks and a very nice mix of Old school rap/hip hop and an occasional reggae or current chart topper. We picked up my girl Lisa and went down there. It was sooo crowded. Having not been there in a long time, I immediately remembered why. A tip for all the brothers out there, if you have gold teeth DON’T COME TALK TO ME!!! Anyway, I met this very nice Caribbean brother(I’m horrible and I couldn’t tell where the accent was from!), Lee met a Spanish guy(actually from Spain), and Lisa ran into her old high school sweetheart that she’s known since she was knee high paying in her grandmama’s yard in Jamaica. So, all in all, it was a good time. Well worth getting in a 2:30/3~ish and having to come in this morning. And of course, I am suffering this morning, so it totally makes my sick story work. Everyone keeps telling me I look like crap. It’s that nice of them?

So, in a nutshell, that was my weekend. Shelly, I know you’ve been dying to ask over there! Tonight, I think we might just rest, but tomorrow, it’s off to Surf! Jr and them are playing. You up for it, ShellyP? I know that’s your spot!

New Roommate?

I am really enjoying having Lee around. It has been great. Yes, work is still kicking my butt and I am exhausted, but I’m loving every minute of it. First off, it’s just really nice to have someone there when I get home. Someone to talk to, someone to take your mind off of work. Secondly, she does the dishes. Now, I love to cook. I’ll cook every day. I’ll do laundry and vacuum and take out the trash, but dishes? I HATE to do dishes. So she does them for me. How sweet, huh? And of course we spend all night up gabbing. Now, I mentioned before that I’ve known her since Jr. High but to be honest, we haven’t spend time together since 93. We had moved to Virginia and my sister stayed in Callie for her senior year. We flew in for her graduation and I spend a few weeks just hanging out. After that, Lee and I just spoke on the phone and over email for years. She and her mom came down here for a cruise, so I saw them for a little bit between the getting back from the Bahamas and flying back home, but that was really short. And finally, I came home the other day and there was some great music playing and she met me at the door with freshly made cherry/lime margaritas! They were soooo good. And yesterday it was these great raspberry vodka drinks! Now I just have to figure out how to get her to move here.

Don't You Love Visitors!!

Lee’s here! Can you tell I’m really excited? My girlfriend from California flew in last night. We have been friends for years. Hmmm… Let’s see, it was 8th grade at Frisbee Jr. High out in Southern Callie. Lee is a year younger than me, but we had the same math class. We have kept I touch all this time. I was the one who went to school (in the summers too), got an engineering degree and started working right away. She was the one who traveled the world while still going to school. She would go to summer programs in Peru in high school. She went on Archeological digs in Jordan during college and went to the Canary Islands to study Spanish after graduation. After that, she threw caution to the wind and decided to be a bartender in San Francisco. Who needs that Physics, no, wait, CE degree anyway? Then she became a teacher. Last year she talked about wanting to go back to school for her writing, which is awesome, and how we should take a trip to Fiji for a month or 2. In my house, with my dog , going to work everyday, can you see why I’m a bit jealous? I live my life vicariously through her! One day I’ll go to Fiji with her. Why not? Oh wait, hmmm, mortgage payments… yes. Forgot about that one for a minute. So for now Lee can fill me in on all the glorious comings and goings in her life and I’ll pretend I was there too. It will be 2 weeks of fun and hoping that a hurricane doesn’t hit us…again!

Back to Work

I was in such a good mood after my vacation. I really was. I got to relax around the house. I found out a lot of that I never knew, like why my Dad went into the military and what ever happened between my grandparents. I got to see my girl in VA beach and meet her finance and see my boy DJ and his honey. It was a good trip. So why does the week have to start out like this? First off, there was a major accident on my way to work this morning. I got here a lot later than I planned on it, after sitting in traffic and dealing with stupid drivers. As soon as I sit down, the PM for the project I work on comes over to my desk. I knew it was trouble. See, I check my emails when I am on vacation. It’s safer that way. That way I know what I’m in for. Plus, I use my work email for personal emails. So, I knew that a contractor that was due to deliver today sent 4 emails on Friday saying stuff I worked on wasn’t working. Ummm, it was all working when I left. And I tried to build the code before I left, but he said to wait! I never got a chance to test what they sent to the contractor. So, of course, I barley sit in my chair, haven’t even logged on to my computer, and I get a bunch of crap. Oh, and to top it off, I had the intern making test data for me when I left. I told her to call me if she had issues. She’s one of those people that likes to ask a million and one questions. I’ve told her a million times not to question herself and just do the work. She always wants to confirm things and see if she is doing it right along the way. Well, we are all sooo busy that she really can’t do that. I’m not saying it’s bad to ask questions, but 9 times out of 10 she is doing it right in the first place!! Anyway, the PM said “Don’t give her stuff to do, come to me.” Ummm, if she is working for me, doing something she has done a million times then I don’t need to go to you, you ASS! Not to mention the fact that you told me to give her stuff to do! Damn! I already need another vacation!

What a Wonderful World!!!

I'm on Vacation! I'm on Vaaaacaaatioooon! Can you tell I'm excited? Ok, here's the update on my trip so far.

Friday - Flew in to Dulles and met Mom at baggage claim. Came home and unpacked while mom played with the dog. Had dinner at 5 something!!! Then spend some time teasing my parents about being old. My good friend, who was supposed to be gone, called me. He wasn't gone yet, they decided to stay till Saturday so we went out for a couple of drinks. I met his honey and DJ surprised me by calling up or other friend Lori. She's a whole story in herself, so I'll have to write more on that later.

Saturday - Hmmmm let's see, I wore my pajamas all day long...

Sunday - Misty, who I've mentioned in the last 2 posts, came up here to do some house hunting. So, I met up with her and her new man over in Georgetown. He was nice. They make a really cute couple. And he has an engineering degree as well, so we spend some time talking about our respective jobs, and it was nice that we both understood what the other was saying. Misty just said "This is the most I've heard about what you do". Well, most people just ask what my company does and then their eyes glaze over as I start to describe it. So, unless someone has a technical background, I usually don't bother to go into it. On my way home, I drove by Historic Occoquan. If you’ve never been there, it’s just a small little “town” on the river that has a lot of shops and restaurants. It’s basically 3 streets by 3 streets. But, when I was younger, my friends and I used to go down here. There is a tiny park with a gazebo and a little dock that we used to go to. Plus some friends worked at Sea & Sea Co. right next door. Being back over there brought back a lot of memories…

Monday – Drove Mom to the airport, she’s going to Seattle to see my sister and my little niece. Of course I sent presents with my mom. My sister yelled at me for getting her too many presents last Christmas, so I’ve taken to sending her stuff all the time now! I guess I do it to spite my sister just a bit, but also just because I see cute things and I want my niece to have them. No to mention, I don’t have kids so I’m allowed to spoil my niece!!

So, that’s a summary of my trip so far. Yes, I’m still in my pajamas right now, but who cares! I’m on vacation…
